Jon Wegener
As a lifelong craftsman, Jon Wegener works in the intersection of function and beauty.
He has been shaping surfboards since 1986. In 2005, he began making ancient Hawaiian style wooden surfboards known as the Alaia and Paipo. He fell in love with the sustainable design of the boards as well as the way the wood slides through the water. He began adding more and more wood to his modern surfboard designs.
His passion for woodworking and shaping has also led him to create beautiful bowls. Jon enjoys experimenting with a variety of woods. Featured here in the gallery are his painted Paulowina Paipos and well as some of his wooden bowls. Jon and family have lived in the Encinitas Leucadia neighborhood for many years.
