Julie Goldstein
Julie Goldstein (b. 1975, Hartford, CT) draws inspiration based on personal experiences that reside in storytelling, humor and whimsical interpretations around motherhood, marriage and everyday life. The stories told are often semi-autobiographical and are inspired by her personal relationships along with lively depictions of women throughout history and in a variety of societies that have collaborated to break societal norms, create change, empower, and inspire.
Goldstein earned a BFA from The University of Connecticut and MA degree from Columbia University. The artist has participated in exhibitions at The Bridgette Mayer Gallery, Philadelphia, PA; Adler Smith Gallery, Los Angeles, CA, Techne Art Gallery, Oceanside, CA, The Greenroom Festival, Tokyo, Japan; The Milk Gallery; New York, NY; The Center for the Arts, Escondido, CA; and a permanent installation at Pacific City, W Hotels, Huntington Beach, CA; among others. Goldstein’s work has appeared in Adventure Journal, NYLON Magazine, BLUE Magazine, Honey Magazine, Surfline, Surfer Girl Magazine, Daily Candy, Drift Magazine, NEast Magazine, Better Homes and Garden and Apartment Therapy, as well as a featured artist in the documentary Hanging Five. She has collaborated with James Brand, Bing Surfboards, Beams Japan, Axxe Wetsuits, Roxy, Alternative Apparel, Reef, Patagonia and Vuori, creating everything from textile designs for apparel and wetsuits to skateboard decks.
Goldstein is a lecturing professor of Printmaking in the Art Media and Design Department at California State University and resides in Encinitas, California.
